In the last regular season game at home in the 2025 season, the Spirit were unable to get a result against last year’s Championship winners, Orlando Pride. They started off with a lead after an own goal by the Pride’s Kerry Abello, but Abello was able to quickly score and draw the game level. Then before halftime, Spirit forward Sofia Cantore scored her second back heel stunner of the season to take the Spirit into the locker room with a lead.
The second half saw soccer legend Marta come on for the Pride and she quickly tipped the scales in their favor. In the first minute of the second half, Marta sent a strong shot toward the box that went off Spirit midfielder Narumi Miura and into the goal. Then in the 70th minute, the Pride were awarded a penalty and Marta was able to get Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury going the wrong way to give the visitors the win. The Pride remain in 3rd place and could return to Audi Field for a fourth match up with the Spirit if the positions hold and both teams win their quarterfinals.
The final regular season game is away against the Utah Royals on “Decision Day”, November 2nd. Before that, there is an international break that is seeing a number of Spirit players return to their national teams for friendlies.
