The Washington Spirit won 4-0 against Mexican team CF Monterrey Feminil in the last game of the 2025-26 Concacaf W Champions Cup at Audi Field. The win tied them on points with Gotham FC, but the Spirits +15 goal differential far outstripped their NWSL rivals (who only had a +6 differential), giving them the top spot in the group. After Orlando Pride could only muster a draw with CF Pachuca Feminil, the final four in the tournament was decided, with the Pride missing out in Group A, leaving only two Liga MX Feminil teams, Pachuca and Club América to move on to the semifinals, which will take place in 2026.
The game started off with a score by Croix Bethune, who picked up a rebound from the Monterrey goalkeeper and quickly put it past the keeper. It was the only goal in the first half. Both sides had opportunities to score, but neither could put the ball into the next. Sadly, Spirit star Trinity Rodman went out with what appeared to be a severe knee injury before the end of that half.
The second half was all Spirit with three goals coming off wonderful passing in the Monterrey box. The first was thanks to a ball from first half substitute Brittany Ratcliffe to Rosemonde Kouassi, who was wide open on the right side of goal. The second goal resulted from a corner when Leicy Santos sent a short box from the corner to Kouassi, who took a turn around a Monterrey defender before sending the ball to Gift Monday. Monday was right in front of goal and only had to redirect the ball into the net for the Spirit’s third goal. The final goal came from a sequence that started with a wonderful through ball from Bethune to Kouassi, who then crossed back to an awaiting Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe’s initial shot was saved on the goal line by a Monterrey defender, however the ball ricocheted off onrushing Monterrey defender Valeria Del Campo for an own goal. The Spirit then held on for the final 30 minutes to see out the 4-0 victory.
