The DC Power FC were finally back at Audi Field for the first time since November to mark the Spring home opener for the second half of their season. On a beautiful but chilly March day, the home side hosted Lexington SC for their third meeting of the 2024-2025 season. The teams, both sitting toward the bottom of the table, split their games in the Fall, which meant that a competitive game was likely to be had.
Lexington started off the scoring in 22nd minute when the Power cleared the ball directly to Lexington forward Julie Mackin, who sent in a strong shot from well outside the box. It was the only score of the first half.
The second half saw the home side fall to two goals down in the 60th minute when Lexington sent a long ball across the box, forcing DC Power goalkeeper Morgan Aquino to make a quick reaction save. However, a weak header to try to clear the ball by the Power gave Lexington forward Hannah White an easy shot on goal and she buried the opportunity.
The Power were able to get one back in the 85th minute when the Gianna Gourley was able to cut the ball back to the top of the box where second-half substitute Loza Abera was waiting for the one time shot to bury it into the net. While the Power had a few other chances in the final few minutes of the game, they were unable to get the equalizer.
Lexington is now in 6th place while DC is in last place. DC play next in Spokane against the 7th place Zephyr on March 15th.
