DC Power FC won their first game 2-1 at home against Lexington SC thanks to a brace from their academy forward Allie Flanagan. The Power controlled much of the first half, but the scoreline didn’t show that as they went behind in the 39th minute on a header by Lexington midfielder Marykate McGuire that floated up and over DC goalkeeper Morgan Aquino.
But in the second half, Flanagan came on for her professional debut and almost immediately made her presence known. In the 52nd minute she took a shot from outside the box into the far side of the goal that just eluded Lexington goalkeeper Sarah Cox. Then in the 90th minute, the Lexington defense was not able to clear a corner that fell right to Flanagan’s head and she was able to get the ball into the right side of goal before Cox could properly react.
