Washington Spirit Take 3 Points in 4-2 First-Half Thriller Against Angel City FC

Posted on 19 May 202419 May 2024
Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury blocks the one-on-one shot from Angel City forward Alyssa Thompson.

Trinity Rodman opened up the scoring in the 9th minute before Angel City came back and took a 2-1 lead thanks to an own goal and Sydney Leroux header. Then Rodman, Casey Krueger, and Ouleye Sarr scored in quick succession to put the Spirit up 4-2. The six goals tied an NWSL first half record.

The wet field caused a lot of slipping and two players, Angel City’s Sarah Gordon and the Spirit’s Sarr came off due to injuries. Angel City racked up 5 yellow cards in their attempt to regain control. The 13,342 attendance was the club’s fifth highest.
