The Washington Spirit held a Spirit Fest 20205, a preseason event for season ticket holders, at Hilton Washington DC National Mall The Wharf on March 1. Fans were able to hear panels with various players, watch the Hey Spirits! podcast do some live taping, learn chants with the Spirit Squadron, and get autographs signed. Most of the players were in attendance in two different shifts and plenty of staff and coaches were also seen throughout the venue. The event was packed.
A number of players, head coach Jonatan Giráldez, and CEO Kim Stone took time out of the event to speak one-on-one with the media. In addition to general enthusiasm for the new Shockwave kits and excitement for the upcoming season, a few interesting tidbits were shared by the players and staff:
– The darker green on the new kits is officially called “Spirit Green”.
– The team’s rebrand is still underway and more should come out in the near future.
– The team is still looking for a location for their own training facility, but are happy with their relationship with DC United and love playing at Audi Field. With the addition of DC Power, scheduling and facilities are getting a little more complicated at Inova Performance Complex.
– Every 2025 home game will feature new merchandise.
– Trinity is a fan of Chili’s restaurant.
